Presentations from the 17th Annual DEVORA forum 2024

The 17th annual DEVORA forum, held on the 21st of October 2024 at the University of Auckland, had researchers coming together both virtually and in person to share their research projects on or about the Auckland Volcanic Field.

A mixture of 13 virtual and 46 in-person delegates attended, representing academic, emergency management, lifeline, council, and industry groups. The forum featured 16 presentations, with talks ranging from investigating Auckland’s crustal structure, predicting lava cave locations, to fire and ash hazards and impacts, and general research updates. Ultimately, the forum provided an excellent opportunity for researchers and stakeholders to catch up on the latest research whilst facilitating informative conversations about future research projects.

All talks are available for viewing and can be accessed through DEVORA’s Figshare page: https://auckland.figshare.com/collections/Presentations_from_the_17th_Annual_DEVORA_Research_Forum/7675610/1

This year, the forum was also held in conjunction with a workshop on the 22nd October 2024, run by Dr Lauren Vinnell and Science Communicator Ceridwyn Roberts. This workshop focused on hazard perceptions and preparation in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, and defining DEVORA’s future impact plans and the resulting stakeholder communication needs and priorities.
